lyrics

Mystery Inside When I was still a child my spirit’s eye began to roam Thru the window to the Great Divide Where the blue sky kissed the virgin snow Out of the window I floated from where they tried to mould my mind Away from the books and the teacher’s drone To the magic land I’d fly At 15 years I headed off with some borrowed boots and a heavy pack Wandered up the valley in the pouring rain And part of me never came back From the far of magic mountain land So close to the sea so close to the sky On the ancient trail of river roar to the mystery inside Older than the oldest holy book, deeper than the wisest mind All my knowledge crumples and flows out thru space and time I travelled the world as a young man But I never really left that mountain trail The palaces and shantytowns - cathedrals and cafes I followed the sound of that river’s roar to the far ends of the earth Until the day that it pulled me back to the Island of my birth. Back up on that mountain side - can you hear the lonely kea cry On the sacred trail of river roar to the mystery inside Toaroha, Arahura, Mikonui, Kokatahi All my senses explode and flow out of space and time Now I am an old man on a rocky ledge above the tussock line I’ve battled all my demons to find the mystery inside All the thoughtless pleasures all the money and all the fame Are not worth a night on this mountainside in the gently falling rain So drop the bullshit, tell me man What do you think your journey’s for? Look over your shoulder at the Great Divide Can you hear the mighty roar? Do remember a time before you went blind When the child went roaming with the Spirit’s eye? You’re never so far that you can’t return to the mystery inside.

about

Andrew Buglass Ruatapu, New Zealand

A musician of little repute or technical skill. Fell in love with song at an early age and learned his simple guitar licks imitating the likes of Neil Young, Ian Anderson & Luke Hurley. Lyrical inspiration from the Dylan's & Cohen's of the world - with a dash of Morrissey or maybe Kristin Hersh. Performances limited to brief solo outings in cupboards and other small spaces. Until now. ... more
