The ghost of desire, he went a walkin’ out upon the road. He met the ghost of beauty she was kissing an old toad He said, “this is my sacred duty – it’s etched upon the stars. This marriage must be consummated The command comes from afar.” She said, “kind Sir you know me not, you know not your own heart That hollow gourd that is your lust, it knows no end or start All sensation passes through it, but its thirst is never quelled You worship stimulation Sir, and I fear we are in Hell.” Well the lovers they got married on the road to Turkistan It was a civil union put asunder by no man The gods looked on and shook their heads They had better things to do, and the gourd remained unaltered as her beauty trickled through. The bird called beauty flew. The ghosts of desire and beauty, they went chasing the ghost of love. Along that endless highway while the mood glowered from above The smoke it swirled around them but the flame had long died out, and the hollow gourd it rattled and it cried an empty shout.
